Hands could leave their gloves only briefly before fingers became too cold to work comfortably. Changing camera settings began to feel like operating a remote control with chopsticks. Yet the sky made the discomfort worthwhile. The Buddha’s bright colours and decorated base anchor the scene beneath the Milky Way, surrounded by snow-covered slopes and a night far larger than the human effort needed to record it.
