He sits on a donkey and looks towards the camera, with the track continuing away behind him. The encounter was brief, leaving much about his life unknown. Black and white brings the textures of clothing, coat and ground into focus. It also holds a moment of recognition between travellers, in a landscape that will be more familiar to him than it was to us.
