A full moon made some night photographs more challenging, but the transition between setting sun and rising moon gave the peak a striking glow. The night was bitterly cold. Staying in tents, we were looked after by the couple who managed the campground. Those small shelters at the mountain’s base carry that memory of welcome, while also showing how sharply and dramatically the rock rises above them.
